Biopolitical cultural festival

LOCATION: MARY DUKE BALLROOM

An after-dinner gathering to enjoy and discuss artistic portrayals of biopolitical issues related to genetic technologies. The evening featured:

Screenings of excerpts of two films:
     

  • Made in India (filmmakers Rebecca Haimowitz and Vaishali Sinha will be in attendence)
  • Fixed (filmmaker Regan Brashear will be in attendance)

A dance production entitled, The Body - A Sheath, in the classical Indian Bharathanatyam tradition by University of Sheffield bioethicist Chamudeenswari Kuppuswamy, exploring conceptions of the body and self in Indian culture.  
 

An original dramatic interpretation by actor/writer/law student Brendan Parent.  

Following the presentations, Charlie Weiner moderated an open discussion between audience members and the filmmakers and performers.
