Joseph Stramondo is a disability community scholar-activist living in mid-Michigan, where he works as an instructor for Michigan State University’s Department of Philosophy while pursuing his doctorate with a specialization in the disability critique of bioethics. Joe has served as Little People of America’s advocacy committee chairperson since 2005 and is an active member of MI-ADAPT. He is the former vice-chair of Connecticut’s State Independent Living Council and second string defense of the Connecticut Jammers Wheelchair Rugby Team. Joe has lectured across the United States about disability and bioethics at academic venues like the American Society for Bioethics and the Humanities, Society for Disability Studies, and North American Society for Social Philosophy, as well as giving talks in the disability community for Youth Leadership Forums, Little People of America, and the National Council on Independent Living. Joe has been awarded the 5 year Michigan State University Enrichment Fellowship and the 2010 Georgetown University Center for Clinical Bioethics Edmund Pellegrino Fellowship. He holds a BA with honors in philosophy and an MA with honors in Public Policy Studies from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. Prior to taking up a career in philosophy, Joe worked as a college career adviser at his alma mater.
